Trump Deepens Rift With Congress by Vetoing Republican-Led Bills

Two House Republicans’ pet projects have stalled after President Donald Trump nixed bipartisan bills Tuesday night, the first vetoes of his second term.

Trump refused to sign a Colorado water bill (H.R. 131) from firebrand Trump ally Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) and a Florida land measure (H.R. 504) from moderate Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.). In doing so, the president set up a test for the new year of whether Congress will be willing to override him with votes in support of the legislation from a two-thirds majority of both chambers.
