Manhasset, New York, was until recently nobody’s idea of Trump Country.

For decades, Democrats have won elections by appealing to suburbs like this one, a well-educated, upscale hamlet in Nassau County, 32 minutes on the Long Island Rail Road express train from Penn Station.

Then came 2024. President-elect Donald Trump won not just Manhasset but Nassau County as a whole, the first time in 36 years a Republican candidate carried this stretch of waterfront mansions, middle-class subdivisions and strip malls east of New York City.
