It’s been nearly two weeks since President Donald Trump vowed to quickly end a brutal Republican Senate runoff in Texas, saying the GOP had to unify to defeat an emboldened Democratic Party that increasingly sees control of Congress within reach.

It hasn’t happened.

With the deadline for candidates to remove their name from the ballot for the May 26 runoff already passed, Senator John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton are again escalating attack ads and pouring more money into what was already the most expensive primary in US history.
