Trump’s Credit Card Onslaught Puts Bank Lobbies in the Blender

Banking and credit card industry lobbyists, along with their allies in other sectors, are blanketing Washington to fight off President Donald Trump’s proposals to meddle with credit card companies.

Trump is calling for a 10% cap on credit card interest rates and has endorsed legislation that would curb credit card transaction fees, supercharging a long-running and multimillion-dollar lobbying fight between banks and retailers.

“The industry is just in a blender,” said Democratic lobbyist Michael Williams, who runs the Williams Group where recent clients include Mastercard and the National Bankers Association, disclosures show.
