Trump’s Highway Safety Nominee Backs Drunk Driving Sensors

President Donald Trump’s pick for chief automotive regulator committed to mandating impaired driving detection technology in new vehicles if confirmed during his nomination hearing.

“It is a day one priority of mine,” Jonathan Morrison, tapped to lead the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, told the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Wednesday.

The regulator hasn’t enforced a rule requiring all passenger cars and trucks sold to include sensors to detect impaired driving. Congress passed the order as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (Public Law No: 117-58) signed during the Biden administration.
