Trump’s Homeland Pick Noem Touts Credentials on Border, Cyber

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) is highlighting her experience with public safety, disaster management, and cybersecurity after President-elect Donald Trump named her as his homeland security secretary pick earlier this week.

Noem, considered a wild-card selection for the Cabinet position, outlined her credentials in an online post Friday. She touted her work responding to crime in South Dakota that she linked to illegal border crossings, invoking the GOP refrain that every state is a border state. She also noted her experience helping South Dakota respond to natural disasters and building up the state’s cybersecurity industry.
