The Trump administration is proposing a $5 billion cut to the National Institute of Health’s budget for 2027, far less than last year’s proposed 40% cut to the agency. The FY27 Trump budget request released Friday asks for $41 billion for the NIH.
The Trump budget also proposes eliminating several institutes and centers at the NIH, including the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, which the budget document says “is replete with DEI expenditures.” It also suggests that reforms at the NIH could be enacted to eliminate “wasteful spending” on research related to transgender care and COVID’s origins. ...
