More money from air passenger security fees would go to the Transportation Security Administration under a new government spending deal, updating a long-contested practice of diverting a chunk of the funds for deficit reduction and other uses.
The change, tucked at the end of the more than 1,000-page fiscal 2024 appropriations package lawmakers released early Thursday, reduces the amount of money that’s redirected from TSA to the US Treasury.
