Uber’s Lobbying Battle Against Trial Lawyers Snarls NY Budget

The rideshare giant Uber Technologies Inc. and a powerful state trial lawyers association have ramped up their sparring over Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposed fixes to lower the cost of auto insurance, as the dispute stalls a final deal on New York’s multibillion-dollar budget.

The Democratic governor is seeking to narrow the definition of “serious injury” in motor vehicle injuries, limit non-economic loss recovery for claimants with serious injuries, and cap non-economic damages for certain accidents at $100,000.
