US Must Engage Dutch on Chip Tool Sales, House China Chair Warns

The top Republican on the House China Committee is urging the Trump administration to curb sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment to Beijing by the Dutch chip giant ASML Holding NV.

Chairman John Moolenaar (Mich.) told Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the Dutch firm plans to begin shipments to China of some of its deep-ultraviolet lithography machines as soon as this fall, he said in a Monday letter seen by Bloomberg Government. The critical tools are used to produce chips that may power phones, electric vehicles, and artificial intelligence applications.
