Utah Lawmakers Send New Congressional Map for Judge’s Approval

Utah’s GOP-led legislature advanced new congressional lines favored by the state Republican Party as their best option to retain control of all four House seats in the state’s delegation to Congress.

The proposed map, which a Utah judge will review, creates two overwhelmingly Republican districts and two more mildly Republican-leaning districts that could be competitive for Democrats in a political environment that favors their party.

The Utah legislature met in special session Monday after state District Judge Dianna Gibson enjoined the map used in the 2022 and 2024 election and ordered the legislature to submit a remedial map.
