Virginia Democrats Advance Bid to Redraw Congressional Districts

Virginia’s Democratic legislature took another step toward overhauling the state’s congressional districts more to their party’s advantage before the Nov. 3 midterm election.

The House of Delegates voted 62-33 along party lines Wednesday for a proposed state constitutional amendment that would temporarily permit the legislature to redraw Virginia’s 11 districts. The House Privileges and Elections Committee voted 15-7 earlier Wednesday to advance the proposal.

Virginia’s Senate is expected this week to join the House in approving the amendment, as both chambers did in a special session just before last November’s state elections. Virginia law requires constitutional amendments to be approved ...
