Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin vetoed legislation Monday that would require businesses proactively monitor the artificial intelligence they use to make decisions in employment, finance, and other sectors to prevent discrimination, according to the governor’s spokesperson.
The measure (H.B. 2094) would have made the state the second to comprehensive restrictions on the technology following a 2024 Colorado law (S.B. 205). Lawmakers in California, Texas, New York, and other states are considering similar bills.
