Social media companies will have to check user ages and limit those under 16 to an hour on their platforms each day under a law Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) signed Friday.
The law (S.B. 854) will take effect Jan. 1 and allow parents to increase or decrease the time their child spends online. Social media sites must put restrictions in place for users they determine are minors through “commercially reasonable methods.”
