Virginia Lawmakers Pass New Maps as Judge Pauses Redistricting

Virginia’s Democratic legislature passed a new congressional map that could make it easier to oust four House Republicans in November, though the campaign faces legal and electoral hurdles to enactment.

The House of Delegates on Friday voted 59-35 along party lines for a proposed new map that would create more difficult reelection campaigns for Republican Reps. Rob Wittman, Jen Kiggans, John McGuire, and Ben Cline. The state Senate voted 21-18 for the proposal Feb. 19 after amending it to make Kiggans’ southeastern Virginia district more Democratic-friendly.
