Voters Challenged to Narrow Their Own Power to Change State Law

Millions of Americans will get the chance to vote this November on proposals that could weaken their ability to change state laws or constitutions, as conservative state legislatures look to block advocacy campaigns on issues such as abortion rights, recreational marijuana and redistricting.

North Dakota voters are being asked to increase the number of signatures—to 5% from 4% of the state population—needed to get a petition on the ballot.
