Washington officials may tell voters that revenue will decline by about $1 billion a year if they approve a ballot measure that would repeal the capital gains excise tax, a state judge ruled from the bench Friday.
Minutes after oral arguments, Judge Allyson Zipp of the Thurston County Superior Court dismissed the suit brought by the state Republican Party chair and Mainstream Republicans of Washington seeking to block mention of the revenue impact in materials that go to voters for the November ballot. Voters are being asked whether to repeal the state’s capital gains tax, enacted in 2021.
