The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration plans to lay off more than 1,000 employees in a new round of workforce cuts expected to hit the weather and climate agency soon, sources say.
NOAA leaders want managers in offices across the agency to submit plans by noon on March 11 to downsize their employee headcount to help meet an overall goal of letting go 1,029 workers. Agency leadership will review the proposals and send a plan to Commerce Department leaders by close of business on March 12.
