Whistleblowers Say DHS Cuts Disrupted Probes of Abuse, FEMA Bias

Investigations into political bias at the Federal Emergency Management Agency and sexual abuse allegations involving other parts of the Department of Homeland Security were sidelined when the agency dismantled its civil rights office, whistleblowers say.

Congressional committees received two whistleblower disclosures Thursday outlining the impacts of DHS’s March decision to terminate almost all employees in its Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, which investigates alleged abuse throughout the department.

The whistleblower accounts are the latest fallout from President Donald Trump‘s efforts to eliminate or downsize oversight offices within DHS and throughout the federal government.
