Whitehouse Plans Move to Senate Environment From Budget Panel

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) said Wednesday it’s “highly likely” he will be the top Democrat on the Environment and Public Works Committee in the next Congress.

Whitehouse, who’s been one of the most vocal lawmakers on combating climate change and holding Big Oil accountable for pollution, currently is Budget Committee chairman. He has used that perch to pursue several climate-related priorities.

If Whitehouse pursues the ranking member slot on EPW, that will open the top Democratic position on Budget in the GOP-led Senate next year.
