Not only did Republicans make it through the longest-ever government shutdown with few battle scars, they brought home $1.4 billion for local projects to boot.

Tacked onto the stopgap measure to end the shutdown were three full-year funding bills, largely overlooked amid the high-profile fights over the Affordable Care Act and the layoffs of federal workers. Two of those bills included $2.4 billion in earmarks, most of which went to Republicans.
