Wider House Foray Into AI Policymaking Prompts Praise, Doubt

Two dozen House Republicans and Democrats are joining forces to address the artificial intelligence boom, a significant step forward following months of scattered and disparate congressional efforts to regulate the emerging technology.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) announced Tuesday creation of a 24-member bipartisan panel tasked with examining how Congress should respond to the abrupt rise of AI and its risks of misinformation, discrimination, and copyright infringement, among other potential harms. The group will aim to release a comprehensive report on AI, providing principles, recommendations, and bipartisan policy proposals on the technology.
