Youth Online Safety Bills Come Before House Panel Next Week (1)

House Republicans are preparing to advance a legislative package addressing online safety for children and teenagers as soon as next week.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee will mark up kids’ online safety legislation next week, said Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.), subcommittee chair and lead sponsor of the high-profile Kids Online Safety Act (H.R. 6484).

Youth and tech safety advocacy groups have demanded Congress respond to public concerns that tech companies are harming young users through addictive algorithms and exposure to dangerous content, such as substance abuse, sexual exploitation, and eating disorders, on social media platforms.
