US Pushes to Revive NY Nuclear Plant to Meet Power Demand (2)

The US energy secretary and a congressman are calling to restart a shuttered nuclear plant north of New York City, saying it’s needed to meet surging demand for power.

“This facility right behind me can be rebuilt,” Congressman Mike Lawler said Friday during a tour of the Indian Point nuclear plant, which was shuttered in 2021. “This facility could generate the power that’s needed for New York.”

He was joined by Energy Secretary Chris Wright, who said decisions in recent years to close nuclear plants were “foolish.”
