Ex-Twitter Staffer Gets Sentence Thrown Out in Saudi Spying Case

A former Twitter Inc. employee found guilty of spying for Saudi Arabia is entitled to a new sentencing hearing but was rightly convicted, the Ninth Circuit said Wednesday.

The trial court calculated the loss to Ahmad Abouammo’s victims using an outdated metric when it handed down a 3.5-year sentence, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled, sending the case back for resentencing.

Abouammo, a US citizen who worked as a media partnership manager for Twitter (now known as X), was found guilty at a 2022 jury trial.
