Iowa Law Barring Gender Identity Education Revived on Appeal

The state of Iowa is free to enforce a 2023 law that prohibits public schools from teaching students at grades six and below about gender identity and sexual orientation.

A lower court abused its discretion when issuing the injunction because it didn’t properly consider the merits of the plaintiffs’ First Amendment claims, the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit said in a Monday opinion that vacated and remanded the injunction decision.
