Los Angeles County declared a state of emergency in response to the Trump administration’s sweeping immigration raids, a measure typically reserved for wildfires or earthquakes.
The emergency declaration, approved 4-1 by the Board of Supervisors, allows the county to tap state resources and speed assistance to residents affected by the mass arrests. Officials said the move was necessary to counter the economic fallout, including among workers in agriculture and construction, and the “climate of fear” spreading across the region.
