States Consider AI-Driven Job Loss Fixes: California Brief

State lawmakers across the country are grappling to address AI-driven job displacement risks, Chris Marr reports.

There isn’t consensus on whether job losses from AI will be a problem or how big a problem it could be. US Senate Democrats say businesses’ adoption of AI tools could put up to 100 million Americans out of work within 10 years, while certain studies say AI will increase available jobs.

Few bills on the issue have made it through state legislatures as they work to find policy solutions to the issue. Even fewer have become law.
