Argentina Bonds Slide Most in EM, Peso Drops Amid Milei Woes

Argentine dollar bonds and currency were sliding on Monday as investors’ concerns about President Javier Milei’s political support continue to grow ahead of midterm elections in October.

  • Dollar bonds were underperforming emerging-market peers, with notes maturing in 2035 losing more than a cent to trade around 53 cents on the dollar, according to indicative pricing data compiled by Bloomberg
  • The Argentine peso was down more than 0.7% at the market open, trading at 1,464 pesos per dollar, closer to the upper level of the trading band which is at 1,473.8 pesos per dollar
