Los Angeles Rains Taper, But Flood and Mudslide Risks Remain

Heavy rains that drenched Los Angeles and the greater Southern California area have tapered off, but risks of high water, mudslides and rockslides in fire-burned areas will remain long after the rain is expected to end.

Rockfall and debris flow were reported along a stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, shutting down a portion of State Route 27 while crews worked to remove hazards, according to Caltrans.

“It’s still raining now, but the intensity has backed off,” said Richard Thompson, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service. “The worst of the storm is over now.”
