OpenAI Seeks $9.8 Million in Legal Fees After Trademark Victory

OpenAI Inc. asked a California federal judge to order the similarly named Open Artificial Intelligence Inc. to pay more than $9.8 million in attorneys’ fees and costs after the AI behemoth prevailed in a trademark infringement suit over its moniker.

The amount is warranted due to OAI’s bad faith motive to extract “maximum money from OpenAI,” according to a motion for fees filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
