Builders and environmentalists on Monday urged the EPA to more clearly define “wet season” and other vague terms in its proposed waters of the US, or WOTUS, regulation.
The proposed rule could imperil plants and animals that rely on streams that are sometimes dry and require more protections under the Endangered Species Act, environmentalists said, speaking Monday at an Environmental Protection Agency public comment session on the proposal in Pittsburgh.
The Trump administration’s proposal is open for public comment until Jan. 5, 2026. Almost 70 public comments on the proposal had been filed online as of Monday.
