Alabama Proposes Senior Property Tax Freeze for Clarke County Residents

The Alabama Governor has signed a law proposing a constitutional amendment that would authorize Clarke County residents aged 65 or older to claim a senior property tax exemption that freezes the assessed value of their primary residence, if they have lived there for at least five years. The exemption would allow eligible taxpayers to continue claiming homestead and other exemptions while remaining subject to millage rate changes, with any property additions after claiming the exemption being separately assessed.
