The District of Columbia Mayor signed a law amending provisions from the FY2026 Budget. The law includes: 1) increasing the downtown business improvement district (BID) tax to 5 percent annually; 2) clarifying certain property tax exemptions; 3) delaying the sales tax increase to Oct. 1, 2026; 4) amending the hotel tax provision; and 5) amending the nonprofit solar tax exemption to include buildings or grounds used for solar energy generation, energy storage, solar energy management activities, or electric vehicle charging.
