EU Parliament Blocks Committee Plan to Water Down ESG Rules (1)

EU lawmakers rejected a proposed simplification of the bloc’s sustainability rulebook, setting the stage for more wrangling over how far the bloc can go to rewrite its ESG regulations.

  • A compromise agreement to dramatically scale back the scope of the rules, reached earlier this month by the parliament’s legal committee, was rejected by the full chamber on Wednesday; according to an EU statement, 318 lawmakers voted against the compromise plan, with 309 in favor and 34 abstentions
