Maryland Comptroller Launches New KAPS for Unclaimed Property Claims

Oct. 22, 2025, 2:08 PM UTC

The Maryland Comptroller announced the launch of a modernized unclaimed property website and system designed to make it easier for residents to reclaim lost assets, replacing a decades-old mainframe system with a new cloud-based solution called the Kelmar Abandoned Property System (KAPS). The new system allows Marylanders to submit claims online for the first time, process claims faster, handle documents more securely, and includes a “Quick Pay” feature launching in November that will automatically issue payments for unclaimed property valued at less than $5,000 without requiring a claim filing.
