South African Finance Chief Sees Outages Weighing on Tax Revenue

South African Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said he’s concerned about the impact of rolling blackouts and logistical constraints on tax revenue in the current fiscal year, as the Treasury reconsiders its economic-growth forecast.

The daily power cuts that are being implemented by electricity utility Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. are a “major problem” for South Africa’s outlook and the amount of tax revenue that the government collects from companies, Godongwana said in an interview with Johannesburg-based newspaper Business Day.
