Anthropic, Music Publishers Disagree on Prompt Discovery Scope

Universal Music Corp. and music publishers are pushing for access to all inputs that ask Anthropic PBC’s AI model Claude to generate song lyrics and outputs containing them as part of discovery in their copyright lawsuit over model training.

The music publisher plaintiffs and Anthropic, which is backed by Amazon, disagree about the scope of the AI prompts and outputs that should be included in discovery, according to the joint discovery dispute statement filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
