A bipartisan group of lawmakers is trying to shield children of immigrant workers from losing their legal status while their parents’ green card applications are pending.
More than 250,000 children of long-term temporary visa holders in the US may “age out” of legal status and face potential deportation when they reach the age of 21. Decades-long green card backlogs affecting workers from India and China in particular, including many on H-1B specialty occupation visas, mean many children on dependent visas don’t have a clear pathway to stay in the US.
