Colorado’s Polis Again Vetoes Bill Limiting Self-Driving Trucks

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) vetoed for a second year in a row a Teamsters-backed bill that would have banned operating an automated large commercial vehicle without a human driver present.

The measure (HB 26-1286) would have required a person with a commercial driver’s license be in the cab and prepared to take control of any automated commercial vehicle over 26,000 pounds, such as 18-wheelers and other large trucks. The person would have to be in the driver’s seat if hauling hazardous material.
