The world’s most significant and far-reaching AI regulation is about to kick into gear, and companies have been readying their compliance while waiting for clarifying guidance.
The EU AI Act’s first provisions take effect Feb. 2: A prohibition on overly risky uses of AI in the EU, and a sweeping requirement that any company using AI in the European Union train its workers to use the technology safely. The ban comes with steep fines—up to 7% of a company’s annual global revenue—though the fines won’t apply immediately.
