The Department of Homeland Security plans to restrict certain immigrants’ access to work permits, including deferred action recipients and people granted humanitarian parole.
Those immigrants would have to demonstrate economic necessity for their employment and prove they warrant a discretionary employment benefit. They’d also have to be employed at a business enrolled in the federal E-Verify program when seeking to renew or extend employment authorization.
The DHS proposal (RIN 1615-AC98) released Thursday also would eliminate employment authorization for foreign nationals with removal orders who are temporarily released from custody with supervision.
