Gov. Greg Abbott (R) filled the lone vacancy on the Texas Supreme Court Friday, elevating former state Solicitor General Kyle Hawkins (R) to the bench.
Hawkins, who must run to retain his seat in next year’s primary, joins several weeks into the court’s current term. He replaces Justice Jeff Boyd, who retired rather than run for re-election.
