George Clinton defeated a lawsuit alleging unpaid royalties from the estate of former bandmate George Worrell Jr. after a district court held the claims were time-barred decades ago.

Worrell wasn’t “reasonably diligent” in protecting his alleged ownership interests; the statute of limitations on his claims accrued “either when the works were recorded and he was not credited or when Worrell learned that he was not receiving the royalties to which he was allegedly entitled, no later than the late 1980s,” Judge F. Kay Behm said Thursday in an opinion for the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. ...
