A federal judge halted President Donald Trump’s order to end protected status for nearly 300 South Sudanese people seeking refuge in the US.
Judge Angel Kelley of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts on Tuesday issued a stay on Trump’s effort to terminate Temporary Protected Status for South Sudan, set to take effect Jan. 6. The order shields 232 South Sudanese currently in the program from deportation, and preserves a pathway for 73 others with pending applications.
