Kansas AG Asks Court to Toss County’s Plastics Deception Claims

Ford County, Kansas, doesn’t have the authority to join a class action plastics recycling case against ExxonMobil Corp. and other energy giants because public welfare lawsuits are the state’s job, the Kansas attorney general’s office argued.

The county lacks standing to join the lawsuit because “it cannot usurp the attorney general’s common law and statutory authority to bring statewide relief to the State or its political subdivisions,” according to Kansas’s motion to dismiss the county’s class allegations filed Monday in the US District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
