Washington’s state labor board will attempt to govern private-sector union elections and claims of unfair labor practices under legislation Gov. Bob Ferguson (D) signed into law.
The measure (HB 2471) is similar to California and New York laws that courts have temporarily blocked in legal challenges alleging they’re preempted by federal labor law.
The state laws are aimed at ensuring private-sector workers retain labor protections even if the National Labor Relations Act is repealed, blocked, or reinterpreted, or if the federal labor board fails to carry out its enforcement duties.
