Nurses at a southeastern Michigan hospital system voted to authorize a strike, a move that adds to a growing number of labor disputes in the health-care sector.
Nurses at Corewell Health East voted 90% in favor of a strike authorization, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters said in a statement Monday. The vote encompassed 10,000 nurses at nine Corewell hospitals and campuses in the metro Detroit region, the union said.
The vote opens the possibility that the nurses will go on strike but does not mean a work stoppage is inevitable.
