State lawmakers from coast to coast in 2025 aim to pass legislation that would restrict how private businesses use artificial intelligence to automate decision-making in activities such as employment and housing.
Nearly a third of the US population would gain protections against the technology if legislatures in California, Connecticut, New York, and Texas approve pending bills in the new year.
And in Colorado, lawmakers are considering changes to the state’s first-in-the-nation anti-AI-bias law they approved in 2024. AI developers have a legal responsibility under the law to prevent their systems from making discriminatory decisions.
