The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced Donald Trump’s picks to lead the Justice Department’s national security and civil divisions, setting them both up for expected confirmation.
The majority-Republican panel voted Thursday along party lines to send Brett Shumate, Trump’s civil pick, and John Eisenberg, his DOJ national security selection, to the Senate floor.
The vote puts Trump one step closer to filling out key Justice Department leadership posts with his appointments. In early April, the Senate confirmed conservative lawyer Harmeet Dhillon to lead the DOJ’s civil rights division, where she has quickly overhauled the unit’s priorities to align with Trump’s agenda. ...
